On Wednesday, fears of a government shutdown grew as budget negotiators huddled behind closed doors and leaders from both political parties continued to bicker over the size and scope of budget cuts for the remainder of the fiscal year. After little progress was made during the day, President Obama called a late meeting at the White House. Boehner announced that House Republicans will vote Thursday on a one-week extension. If an agreement is not made, the government will shut down after Friday.
